Gays Mills Marks 1-Year Anniversary Of Floods
625 Residents Live In Town

GAYS MILLS, Wis. -- Last year's flood devastated their town, but residents of Gays Mills marked the one-year anniversary with a sense of optimism.The Kickapoo River in southwest Wisconsin overran its banks Aug. 20 of last year, damaging more than 75 homes. The town of 625 residents was hit again by floods in June, displacing dozens of people.Residents turned out Sunday to "Flood Daze" for food, games and music.The Rev. Pam Lojewski, pastor of the local Luther Memorial Church, said the last year was hard on the town, and many have been living with relatives or in apartments while their homes are repaired.She said Gays Mills has become a depressing place to live, and she hoped that Sunday's event will help lift people's spirits.
