MADISON, Wis. -- The owners of the Majestic Theatre want to join forces with University of Wisconsin-Madison's student government to transform the Mifflin Street Block Party from a two-block kegger into a bona fide block party. The city called for a sponsor to bring order to the annual end-of-school celebration after this year's party, which resulted in 438 mostly alcohol-related arrests.Majestic's owners approached the Associated Students of Madison and city officials with an eye toward making the party more focused on bands and less on booze.Majestic co-owner Scott Leslie said the talks are in preliminary stages.ASM chairwoman Brittany Wiegand said it would take about $100,000 to set up two stages with local bands and a nationally recognized headliner. The money would likely come from student fees, and Wiegand said she doesn't know if students will want to pay for the party.
